The sixth annual Main Event Series went off in wintry wonderland this weekend at Crotched Mtn in NH. A Nor'easter chased us into the resort and another one slammed us on the way out. There was truth to be told that snowboarding is all about the snow after all. The weekend was a combination of early season powder slashes, not-so-great visibility and one of the first legitimate park/jump set ups on the east coast.
Crotched Mtn recovered from one of Northeast's worst ice storms in over a decade and did not have power for a week before the event. Josh Lempert from Snow Grind stayed up all night with Brandon Halberstadt sculpting a 35 ft jump and rail combo set up. The snow started easing up just in time for the contest to start Saturday morning. We had some heavy hitters and local rippers join us for the kickoff of the 08/09 Main Event Series starter.
When the contest got rolling, it was clear that some riders had been practicing. Lauren Tamposi was escalated from AM to PRO when she started throwing backside 360's and her grabs grabbed her a victory in the pro class. Wes Walsh was spinning 900's all over the place and laying down 270's on and off the rails. He caught the judge's eyes to become a top hopeful for this season.
